About:
Chokai is a solo electronic music producer from Luton in the United Kingdom. Chokai's style can be described a retro-influenced "melodica", covering a wide range of genres. Widely influenced by 70's and 80's electronic music from the likes of YMO, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Dada, rap acts from the 80's and 90's such as NWA, Public Enemy and the beastie boys as well as more modern acts such as the Chemical Brothers, the Prodigy, BT, Jazzanova and Radiohead. Chokai's wide music tastes have contributed to a unique production style.
Chokai Started out in 1997, producing music using a commodore amiga 1200 running a tracker program called Octamed producing dark, lo-fi drum n bass. Through the years Chokai expanded his home studio up until 2000 when Chokai finally moved into a more professional capacity, and produced his first album titled "traveller", a mix of trance and downtempo. Chokai's first got noticed by the 3Bass label in 2002 following the release of his second album "traveller south". Chokai went on to release both this and his third album "Tori Umi".
After leaving the 3Bass label in 2003, Chokai went on hiatus for 2 years, emerging again in 2005 on the Artificial Bliss label with his fourth album "Iko", the most sucessful album to date. Later releasing "Glade Geita", a more ambient, experimental mixed EP in 2007 and "shoot 'em up ace", a floor-pounding trance escapade twinned with the equally banging "space grooves" in 2008.
Revaling a more darker, experimental facet of Chokai's music, the album "Knowledge and Ignorance" was release on the Artificial Bliss label in 2009 along along with a remastered version of "traveller south" and the tounge-in-cheek single "Token Robots / Clockwatcher" on the SKP label. Another 2 releases followed in 2010, the 80's inspired "86 Space Robots Battle!" EP on Artificial Bliss and the remastered "traxcs" EP on the SKP label.
Chokai, now working as an independent artist continues to work on new material as well as remixing for independent artists from all over the globe.
